Ditch Digger? Not Me!

Nothing against ditch diggers, or any other kind of diggers and manual labour. In fact, in the last week I’ve met a couple of lovely humans who were doing just that.

But it is not my strength (literally as well as figuratively).

I had to do some digging this week (hence the hiring some manual labourers to help) and it reminded me that playing to our strengths is what produces the best results, in life and in the workplace. While we often have a lot of skills or experiences that we can bring to a given project, we really shine when we are doing the things we are good at.

When we’re not in the right role or doing the right things that play to our strengths, we lack motivation, quality suffers, we make mistakes, and we don’t feel that sense of purpose that drives our enjoyment of the work we do.

And since most of us (the 99%) do have to work, shouldn’t we enjoy it?

We should all be able to shine in our work.

And not just support a shiner!
