Asset (People) Management

“Our people are our greatest asset”

So what would it look like if we treated people like assets?

I’m not an asset manager, but what I understand of the practice, it focuses on optimizing value contained within an asset. Developing when necessary, improving, managing and then disposing of when the value is not longer there.

I am an HR manager, and what I understand about talent management is that the best organizations spend effort to develop, improve, manage performance, and correct when the value is no longer there.

Sounds similar to me.

But assets are considered capital and show up differently in financials. They also are considered differently with assets generally considered to be an investment and employees a cost.

Perhaps it’s time to flip the script?
